Patrik Süess was born in St. Gallen in 1978, studied general history, philosophy and political science at the University of Zurich and is a PhD student at the Basel Graduate School of History and a research associate at the Centre for Jewish Studies in Basel.

No right of domicile for Jews

The Federal Constitution of 1848 denied Jews free settlement in Switzerland. Only the signing of a trade agreement with France prompted Switzerland to end this discrimination.
